Ardardan Estate: 39 kW

Ardardan Estate is set in a Restored Walled Garden on the banks of the River Clyde. Engenera approached Grant Montgomery, the Managing Director of Ardardan Estate to explain their offerings and the savings that they could achieve through the installation of renewable measures.

Through a pricing matrix Engenera illustrated to the client that by fitting a 30kW system at ZERO cost they could save the business village an average £1,719 per year.

Whilst carrying out research Engenera found the Business Village in North Tyneside was a perfect candidate for zero cost Solar PV. Even though the property was not perfectly South facing, Engenera took into consideration the pitch, azimuth and orientation of the building.

Our zero cost option means businesses profit from free installation, zero operation costs and no ongoing maintenance fees. Through our Power Purchase Agreements, businesses will purchase the green generated electricity and benefit from a significant reduction on mandatory Climate Change Levy charges. The installation and ongoing maintenance really does cost businesses nothing and offers real financial savings on billed compulsory charges together with lower electricity bills year on year.

How does zero-cost work?

We take all the information collected from the survey i.e. the pitch, azimuth and orientation of the roof and input this into the Photovoltaic Geographical Information System set by MCS and are provided with the yield of the property. The yield is the yearly sum of global irradiation that will hit the PV modules.

The yield we were provided for Cowan Print was 845 Kilowatt Hours. Using this figure and the system size (30kW) we can figure out how many KWh’s Ardardan Estate will produce each year. For example, if you are being charged 12.50p per kWh, Engenera will charge only 9.5p per kWh giving the estate a saving of 3p per kWh.

Grant Montgomery, Managing Director at Ardardan Estate said: “The project was a statement that Ardardan wanted to play it’s part in, cutting carbon emissions. We are based in a very rural setting so the environmental concerns were one of the things that drove us, and it also makes a lot of sense financially as the system was free and we are seeing a dramatic reduction in our energy bills.”
